As predicted by Alastair Cavenagh prior to the start of this year’s Kenya National Rally Championship in Nyeri, the season promises a fierce duel between the two Dalbit Petroleum teammates.

Both Cavenagh and Carl Tundo are two times former champions and each is eager to be the first of the pair to clinch the decisive third crown.

The team has also brought Monster Energy drink on board as sponsors. Monster sponsors Ken Block the American stunt driver who competes in the WRC.

"Monster is a massive brand and extremely popular around the world, having a strong affiliation with motor sports and we are very happy to have them on board," Tundo told FeverPitch.

The second round of the 2012 Kenya National Rally Championship, the KCB Biashara Banking Rally, heads to Marigat and Mogotio on March 10.

The opening round saw a podium lock out for cars tuned on the Kick Dyno, proving that this state of the art machine benefits overall performance to modern machines, regardless of their purpose.

The Mitsubishi Evo 9’s of event winner Tundo, reigning champion Ian Duncan and third place Cavenagh, all benefited from recent visits to Sharpe Services in Karen, Nairobi, to ensure that they were operating at peak efficiency.

The Kick Dyno, which was launched in May 2011, has fast become a major factor in Kenyan rallying but this machine, unique in East Africa as the first operational four wheel drive dynometer, also benefits other vehicles.

Doesn’t affect warranty

By combining a Unichip, which operates side by side with the manufacturer, dedicated ECU and thus does not affect warranty. The Kick Dyno can improve fuel economy, performance, apply or remove speed limiters and generally ensure that the vehicle runs properly.

Tundo, who also attributed his KCB Safari Rally win in 2011 to time spent on the Kick Dyno, won the Nyeri event by over one and a half minutes from Duncan with Cavenagh coming third, a further 1 minute 40 seconds back.

Meanwhile, Nanyuki Rally Group will host the first round of the National Cross Country Championship on February 18-19.

The event will feature bikes, quads, cars and buggies.

Duncan is the defending buggy champion and Shazar Anwar and Shivam Vinayak the defending quad and bike champion. Nish Lakhani is the cars’ champion.
