Musicians in Sh250m political deal

- MondayBlues

Even though no artiste is acknowledging the fact that local entertainers are contracted by political parties in the current political whirlwind, I can confirm that secret deals worth millions have already been signed — between top parties, recording stables and individual artistes.

After locking a number of artistes in a deal that will see them grace its political rallies across the country, a leading political movement has set aside a Sh250 million entertainment budget for artistes with rates ranging from Sh80,000 to Sh300,000 per show, for every artiste in the deal.

A huge chunk of the cash is in the hands of top recording stable managers and two events organisers whose names we chose to shelve, at least, for now.

According to one of the secret contract deals in our possession, Sh300,000 was paid to two top singers during a recent political show with a similar amount having been set for another group during one of last week’s political rally, outside the city.

A recording stable has been awarded Sh5 million to come up with political anthems while an events organiser has pocketed Sh20 million to come up with creative advertising (outdoor and TV) slogans.

The outdoor adverts started going on billboards last week with the rest expected to hit the screens in two weeks.
