Manchester United bosses believe Ryan Giggs is ready to walk away from the club.
And close friends of the star believe he could even take a break from football before trying to get into management next year.
Senior club figures expect an announcement from the Welshman in the next few days - and they believe he will turn down the chance to stay on with the Old Trafford giants and work with new boss Jose Mourinho .
Giggs, 40, has been assistant manager under Louis van Gaal for the past two seasons, playing a key role both on the training pitch and in preparing the presentation about the opposition show to the squad before matches.
But Mourinho is bringing his own close-knit coaching team with him - leaving the United legend, who has been at the club for 29 years, with the offer of a reduced role as youth team boss.
Giggs, who was put in temporary charge of the first team for four games when David Moyes was sacked in 2014, had been earmarked as a potential successor to Van Gaal after serving time as his number two.
Although it's believed he was unhappy to be overlooked, Giggs was never given a cast-iron guarantee he would be the next boss.
And with former Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid boss Mourinho available, he knew he couldn't compete with his managerial record.
Some of Giggs' Class of 92 pals are believed to have advised him to leave his United comfort zone and manage in his own right.
But friends of the thirteen-time Premier League winner, who has recently split from wife Stacey, believe he is ready to take a break from the game and wait for the right managerial opening
