Women were circumcised to stop harassing men for ‘vigorous action in bed’ - Migori doctor

A doctor from Migori claims female genital mutilation was a good way of ‘killing’ libido among horny women.

In an interview with The Nairobian, Dr Robi noted that the Kuria community practised female circumcision to ensure women didn’t cheat on their husbands.

“In the olden days, the Kuria were largely a pastoral community and our forefathers used to go for months in search of pasture. Polygamy was common.  Most men had more than four wives. One was allowed to marry as many wives as he wished, as long as he was able take care of them. Now, imagine coming back home to four horny women?” he posed.

He says the community had no choice but to circumcise the women.

This, he noted, was to ensure that they didn’t desire other men while their husbands were away.

“It lowered their libido and ensured they didn’t sleep around. Further, they could not harass the men in bed demanding for ‘vigorous action’,” he said.

Dr Robi however admitted he would not allow any of his daughters to be circumcised terming it as “barbaric and an old-fashioned way of doing things.”

“Yes, I do have a daughter and she is not circumcised. Our people had tangible reasons behind most of these cultural practices, but times have changed. I recommend civic education as opposed to arresting old women who ‘cut’ these girls,” he added.
