Zoo Kericho started their campaign for promotion to the Kenyan Premier League on a positive note.

They defeated Modern Coast 1-0 on Sunday. After being denied promotion in two previous occasions, the Kericho side is determined to get the nod at the end of the season.

Zoo Kericho started well with George Ian, Dominic Kiprono and Bryan Musa coming close in the first half.
Just at the stroke of half-time, Billy Luvai scored the all-important goal of the match as his side picked three points.

In another match, Kisumu’s Palos won 1-0 against Nakumatt, who have spent a fortune to strengthen their squad.

Kariobangi Sharks also started their campaign as expected, defeating Moyas 3-0 at Ruaraka. In another match, Wazito defeated Talanta 2-1.

In yet another surprise result of the weekend matches, Vihiga United defeated former premier league side Kenya Commercial Bank 2-0 at the Mumias Complex.

It is a result that left Vihiga coach Edward Manoah excited and hopeful of helping his side earn promotion next season.

“We are not going to give any of our big opponents respect. We don’t fear anyone. By July, you’ll see big teams coming here to recruit some of our players. I have some of the finest untapped talents,” Manoah said.

After a nervous start, United went ahead in the 13 minute after Patrick Okulo scored from the penalty spot after Vincent Odongo was fouled in the box.

Vihiga goalkeeper Geoffrey Oputi was less troubled as KCB’s blunt striking force couldn’t manage a shot on target in the first 45 minutes.

Manoah made two changes in the second half as he introduced Michael Isabwa and Dennis Nandwa, resting rested former AFC Leopards striker Joseph Okumu and Vincent Odongo.
