Pope Francis’ directive that church leaders reject contributions from individuals who earn their money unfairly is not only in accordance with the laws of the Christian religion but also an example worth emulating in the Kenyan scenario.

At a time when religions have been compromised, there are differences on doctrines. This has led to not only the corruption of religious laws by egocentric individuals but the tainting of reputation of churches.

Pope’s disregard of dirty money in favour of clean hearts that are open to God’s mercy is a contrast of the philosophies of Kenyan clergymen.

Despite attempts by the media to expose the misdeeds of church leaders, such efforts have been suppressed on the basis of intrusion of privacy, resulting in Kenyans subscribing to distorted philosophies of preachers.

Pope’s move to empower Vatican’s financial intelligence to prosecute the clergy implicated in financial crimes is a bold step worth emulating

Kenyan church leaders should also stand firm to eradicate financial fraud in our churches.
