A school principal in the county has died in mysterious circumstances that some suspect to be a case of suicide.

Witnesses suspect Andrew Murimi Ngure tied a rope around his neck while standing on a stool, which enabled him to reach the roof where he hanged himself at about 6am on Sunday at his Mitondo village home.

The 53-year-old is reported to have left behind several documents he has allegedly been authoring since December 21.

Mr Ngure is said to have ordered a friend he was with to go to his mother's house and bring him hot water to shower as he prepared to go to church.

"But when I brought the water, I found the main door locked from inside. And on knocking several times Ngure did not open, prompting me to raise an alarm," the close friend said.

The witness said relatives responded to his distress call and broke the door open. The eyewitness said they found Ngure's body, in short pants and a T-shirt, dangling from the roof.

The documents found in a sealed envelope were later picked by police who also moved the body to the mortuary for a post-mortem.

"Although I did not see the documents, it was claimed one indicated that Ngure's body should be buried before this Thursday," said the witness. Another document, according to those privy to them, showed how the deceased's wealth should be distributed among his children.

Kirinyaga West police boss Gasper Makau said he could not disclose the contents of the documents due to their sensitivity.

"These documents are shocking and heartbreaking. It is only the family which can reveal this if it so wishes after we have completed our probe," he said Monday.

It is also claimed Ngure had written his own eulogy and directed who would read it and those to attend his funeral.
