After the eleventh hour cancellation of Davies Cup last weekend at Nairobi Polo Club, it's time for the Maria Bencivenga Championships at the same venue starting on Saturday.

The Davies Cup was cancelled due to heavy rains, which made had in the previous day rendered the pitch unplayable.

Unpredictable weather conditions could also render the Maria Bencivenga Championships to the same fate but riders pray for the heavens not to open up this time round.

"We had had to cancel the Davies Cup owing to rains that came a day before the tournament. We pray for things to come a different way this time round," said former Nairobi Polo Club chairman Raphael Nzomo.

He said it has been a long season but was happy their events are almost coming to an end to give their ponies to take a long rest.

"Our ponies also need to have due rest. But this can only be achieved after the completion of all our competitions," said Nzomo.

The two-day competition will end on Sunday.

It has attracted a number of experienced riders but organizers had not released the composition of teams and players who are to take part in the competition.

It'll be released this afternoon.

It'll be the fourth tournament in the series of 2023/2024 Nairobi Polo Club calendar of events.
