Golf: Maina wins Madison golf day overall prize

Rookie Joshua Maina scored 41(21+24) stableford points to claim the overall prize of Madison Insurance golf day played at the par 71, Nyeri Golf Club over the weekend.

Playing off handicap 26 and fresh from winning the Lady captains prize last weekend at the same course on a similar score of 41 stableford points, Joshua said everything just fell in place as the round with no hold ups his game plan played out to his advantage.

Men's winner prize went to handicap 8, Father Anthony Munene on a score of 37(18+19) stableford points with Samwel Kiragu playing off handicap 9 picking Men third prize on a score of 36(17+19) stableford points.

Mercy Mburu was the Lady winner with 34(15+19) stableford points, in the seniors' category handicap 14 S.W. Githitu posted 32(17+15) stableford points to win.

Mwangi Gathu and Richard Kabugi played 20 stableford points each to claim the 1st and 2nd nines prizes respectively.

Mose Sammy of Nakuru golf club returned a score of 38(15+23) stableford points to take the Guest prize, with Madison staffer Stanley Karanja picking the Staff prize on a score of 26(13+13) stableford points.

Mathew Githinji of Nyali Golf and Country club drove his tee shot 336 yards to clinch the Longest drive prize as Nyeri club Lady captain Jenifer Kariukis' tee-shot came to rest at the 206 yard mark to win. [Mose Sammy]
