The KFS Karate Club bagged several trophies in the recently-concluded Annual Karate Shotocup Championships in Mombasa County in a show of might that combines sports success with environmental conservation.

The team  bagged three trophies in different fields in the Mombasa event thus stamping their feet in karate championship in the region as a whole.

The event that is organised by the Japan Karate Association – Kenya, (JKAK) drew competitors from Kenya Ports Authority, Parklands SC,Kenya Utalii College, Strathmore University, Kenyatta University, Kenya Prisons Service, G4S and Administration Police.

KFS  team represented by nine members towered over their rivals.

Ranger Kellen Makena of KFS competed against 17 ladies and won two bronze medals in individual Kata and Kumite Championship (basic movements in karate and art of sparing in the ring) respectively.

KFS ladies Kata team brought home the position two trophy after thrashing their opponents. Ranger Joshua Soipei won the Best Effort Trophy due to his fighting spirit while Inspector Geoffrey Okeyo, who is also the Team Leader, snatched a gold medal on Kata (basic karate techniques).

The team was also crowned with the best disciplined team trophy following their exemplary performance.

Previously, Inspector Okeyo represented KFS in the Southern, Central and Eastern Africa region championship where 17 countries attended. The latter was held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania earlier this year.

Okeyo says with discipline and determination,the team will be a regional giant soon.

“We have set our eyes on the prize and soon our team will achieve its continental goals,” added Okeyo. Mugo hailed the good performance by the Karate team.
