Everton goalkeeper Robin Olsen and his family were robbed at knifepoint in a terrifying attack on their home, according to reports.

Olsen, 31, is believed to have been with his wife, Mia Lindgren, and two small children, aged five and two, when masked thugs carrying machetes broke into their home near Altrincham, Greater Manchester on Saturday night.

The Sweden international was marched around the house while the robbers collected jewellery and a valuable watch before making off, according to the Daily Mail.

No-one is believed to have been injured and the report adds Olsen is 'bearing up well' and has moved his young family to a different property.

Mirror Sport have contacted Greater Manchester Police regarding the incident, while Everton declined to comment.

The attack on the Swede's home has reportedly alerted many other footballers in Altrincham - an area popular among top-flight players - to step up their security measures.

It also comes only a matter of weeks after Toffees boss Carlo Ancelotti was targeted and a safe stolen from his home in Blundellsands, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.

The burglars - described as wearing black waterproof clothing and black balaclavas - were believed to have been disturbed by the Italian's daughter and made off.

A statement by Merseyside Police read: “We are appealing for information after a safe was stolen in a burglary in Crosby on Friday evening (12 February).

“We were called at 6.35pm to a report two males had entered a property on Hall Road East at around 6.30pm.

“The offenders were described as wearing black waterproof clothing, possibly with white writing on, and black balaclavas.

“The occupants of the house were unharmed. Officers attended and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

“The property will be forensically examined and CCTV opportunities are being explored.”
