A total of 36 counties will compete in this year's Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) Games set for Kericho from August 11-19.

They’ll be fighting for tickets to the East African Games to be held in Kampala, in December.

The East Africa games will feature five countries; hosts Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi.

Migori and Turkana were the last counties to confirm participation and will be taking part in the tournament for the first time alongside Makueni and Homa Bay.

The championships have also attracted County Assemblies, the Senate, Ministries of Culture and Sports and Devolution and Local Authorities Pension Fund(LAPFUND).

KICOSCA Secretary-General Kabiri Muraya predicted tough matches in all disciplines as players expect to make the team to the regional championships.

Teams will compete in 21 disciplines that include golf, handball, chess, scrabble, football, volleyball, basketball, netball, athletics and tug of war.

Other disciplines in the nine-day championships include pool, darts, badminton, table tennis, cultural dance, choir and ajua.

This year's edition has been sponsored by County Pensions Fund (formerly Laptrust), Lapfund and Nairobi Sports House.
