Hirani, Mwangi win as Vohra takes charge at KMSF

New KMSF chairman Jaideep Singh Vohra.

Fresh from his successful Formula Gulf 1000 debut in Dubai last weekend, Tejas Hirani returned home to win the National Autocross Championship round 4 at the Athi River racetrack.

At the weekend’s Autocross, the youngster dominated the entire field, winning his 2WD Non-Turbo class, thereby recording the fastest time of the day (FTD) in all classes to beat former KNRC Division Two champion Onkar Rai of the open class by seven seconds.

Also victorious were Steve Mwangi in the 4WD Turbo despite rolling and being back on four wheels.

Hardeep Rehsi won the 2WD Turbo class for buggies as Ryan Bailey won the Bambino class, beating Rio and Jadini Nzomo to the podium dash.

Shaz Esmail, who did not finish  in the 2WD Turbo said: “I retired. The buggy broke down and couldn’t finish fixing on time.”

Meanwhile, Jaideep Singh Vohra is the new Chairman of the Kenya Motor Sports Federation.

His appointment was unanimously endorsed during the Annual General Meeting of the Motor Sports Governing Body on Thursday, where all the stakeholders from the Eleven Motor Sports Clubs across the nation were present.

The stakeholders are members of the Board of Directors of KMSF by virtue of being the heads of the respective Clubs.

Roy Mackenzie, who had held the post for nearly sixteen months since he was appointed in February last year, decided to retire. However, he still remains one of the 11 Directors of the Federation by virtue of his position as the Chairman of the Mombasa Motor Club.

Vohra, who is no stranger to Motor Sports in Kenya, said he would make sure the sport remains professional and attractive in the eyes of the sponsors, competitors and fans.

“The essence is to keep our sponsors and competitors happy by making sure motorsport disciplines are properly, fairly and professional managed. I will strive to revamp various disciplines of motorsports in Kenya, over and above steering them to desirable heights,’’ said Vohra soon after his appointment.
