KENYA: Former Kenyan Premier  League (KPL) side Kakamega Homeboyz suffered a setback following the poaching of their head coach Edward Manoah by Vihiga County.

Manoah, one of the experienced KPL coaches, has been hired by the county to take charge of Vihiga All Stars that features in the Football Kenya Federation Division One League.

The county has also recruited former AFC Leopards player Tom Tera as Manoah’s assistant.

Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga confirmed that they had brought Manoah on board to be in charge of development of football in the county.

“We have finalised a deal with Manoah and handed over Vihiga All Stars team to him,” said Akaranga.

He added: “My target is to have the team qualify for the Premier League and that is why the county is investing in experienced coach.”

County Executive Committee member in charge of Sports Nixon Amendi said Manoah has been given the mandate to recruit players so as to reinforce the existing playing unit.

“The team did not perform well in the FKF Division One league last season. We are reinforcing the paying unit and technical bench with the view to qualifying for the Super League and eventually the Premier League,” said Amendi.

“The new coach used tournaments that were held during the December festive season to recruit players for the team…we are impressed with players that he has recruited,” said Amendi.

Manoah (pictured) said he was happy to be with Vihiga All Stars, adding he was aware that the task ahead of him was tough.

“I have quit as Homeboyz coach and I thank them for the support they gave me. I wish them well as they fight to return to topflight league,” he added.
