Phil Jones deals Moyes injury blow

EPL: Phil Jones has dealt Manchester United an injury blow after scans confirmed the defender has suffered an abductor injury.

The 21-year-old limped out of England’s 2-0 defeat to Chile after 57 minutes with a groin problem, and has returned to Old Trafford after tests.

Jones will now likely be out of action for 10 days, which will rule him out of Manchester United’s trip to Cardiff and crucial away game at Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.

A statement from the FA read: ‘Phil Jones has been ruled out of England’s final match of 2013 against Germany on Tuesday evening.

‘The Manchester United defender picked up his injury during England’s defeat to Chile on Friday evening, and following a scan today (Saturday) he has returned to his club.’

United manager David Moyes will be hoping Jones can recover in time for the trip to Leverkusen next Wednesday, with the Red Devils needing at least a point to all-but confirm their status as group winners.
