The KCB Guru Nanak Rally 2013 will be staged on all-new roads in Naivasha on the first weekend of October, officials have announced.

The event marks the penultimate round of the Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC) organised by Sikh Union Nairobi.

Series leader and KNRC 2008 Champion Baldev Chager will be seeking to wrap up the season on a high considering that he requires a top 10 finish to secure his second career championship.

In another development, rally drivers are putting their heads together to organise the Kenya Motor Sports Club (KMSC) Clubman Rally on September 22.

Compliance with rules

This rally will be run in compliance with the FIA International Sporting Code (and its appendices), the National Competition Rules (NCR’s) of the Kenya Motor Sports Federation Limited and its Additional Supplementary Regulations.

Baldev “Boldy” Chager is the clerk of the course while the reigning Group S Champion Jaswinder “Jazzy” Chana is the event director.

Among those listed for the event are newcomers Sarit Shah, Kaushil Halai, Asad Khan nicknamed ‘Kalulu’,  Imran Khan and Anish Chouhan, the current two-wheel-drive  leader. Others are Dennis Mwenda, Sammy Nyorri, Caroline Gatimu, Anwar Pandya of Kamajokes Racing and Formula II driver  Gurmit Thethy.

Jazzy Chana said each stage of the event will be  approximately 20km long,  over and above a total competitive distance of about 100-120km.

“The stages will have direction markers to guide the drivers. All major corners will be taped.

“No recce is allowed; this is a measure being used to cut down on costs. Notes will be done by Chager, the clerk of the course,” said Chana.

Scrutineering and documentation will take place on September 22 at the Multiple Hauliers Yard in Athi River.

The rally is expected to start and also end at the yard.

Elsewhere, Gurmit Thethy has ditched his old Volkswagen Golf GTI for a new VW Mark 3 and is bubbling with confidence as he awaits his maiden appearance in the new car, which was acquired from CRS Racing.

“We are trying to finish the work on the car so we can drive it in the Clubman Rally as a test drive,” said Thethy.

“Yes, the excitement is there because the car feels totally different from the one I have been driving, so I need to get used to it.

“I really haven’t driven it much, only about 40km of testing.”
