Sacked Gor Mahia coach Anaba Awono believes the team is capable of ousting Mozambique’s Ferroviario when the two sides clash this afternoon in the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup tie at Nyayo National Stadium.

Awono surprisingly had kind words for the team that sacked him on Monday, but noted that even the new cAoach Bobby Ogolla would need time to find a winning squad.

"No one can preview a football match. If Ferroviario scored 3-0 against Gor in Maputo, Gor can do the same here. I believe Gor have learned from their mistakes and with the backing of their fans they would easily overturn the scores," said Awono. He was in charge when Gor lost the first leg in Maputo three weeks ago.

He blamed Gor Mahia’s office for interfering with his work, by demanding that some players be fielded and suspects that it was one of the reasons for his dismissal since he always made the final decision on the starting team.

Anaba has made big changes in his line-up since the league began, not being able to stick to a specific squad.

From their first match of the season, which they lost to league champions Tusker on penalties, Gor’s line-up has never been the same and results have been hard to come, save for a 2-0 league win over Thika United.

"Coaches are not magicians, sometimes it is very hard for us and I believe it was too early for the club officials and fans to judge me after just four matches. The season has just started and Gor has a a lot of new players," said Awono who needed police escort after Gor lost to Karuturi in Naivasha.

He added: "To be honest some of the club officials always gave me proposals for their preferred team, but as the head coach I had to make the final decision."
