A Premier League star has reportedly been arrested on suspicion of rape and false imprisonment.

The player, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been released while the investigation continues following the incident at his home last month, report the Daily Mail.

He is said to have been arrested at his home on Wednesday morning.

Police told the publication that officers had executed a warrant at the address and that a man had been arrested on suspicion of rape and false imprisonment.

"He has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries," they added.

Premier League football is continuing amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, although matches are being played behind closed doors.

Top-flight action is currently on hold for two weeks while international games take place.
