Timase shines at Airtel Media Challenge

Royal Media's Tony Timase conquered a strong field of over 20 contenders with 111 gross points to win the first leg of Airtel Media Challenge in 2011 played at the Golf Park over the weekend.

Steve Mbogo from Business Daily came second ahead of The East African’s Mwaura Kimani.

Betty Muindi, of The People Daily, won the ladies’ prize after posting 114 points. Josephine Ngumba from (People Daily) won the longest drive, while Muindi won the nearest to the pin prize.

Gathenya Njaramba (The People) settled for first nine title with 53 gross points, while Royal Media’s Boniface Mutakha took the second nine award with 56 points.

The tournament is gaining popularity among journalists, with the best performing players winning goodies from Airtel besides learning golf etiquette.

Presenting the awards to the winners, Marketing Director Henry Njoroge said that the challenge had only begun and that more exciting series should be expected.

Airtel has continued to support the media tournament, nurturing the talent of members of the fourth estate. The finals of the competition will be staged at the same venue in December 2011.
