Susan Ngure, rolled to her second win in less than a month after firing 39 points to clinch the Heritage Insurance Golf Day overall title at Nanyuki Sports Club on Saturday.

Playing off handicap 23, Ngure, had won the Nerix Pharma tournament at the same club. She defied dry conditions on the course and a strong field of 35 players to excel.

She hauled 20 points on the first nine before wrapping up with 19 on the back nine to beat businessman John Mathai by a point.

Tense moments gripped the District Education Officer when she almost lost her wedding ring on the 15th to scratch the par-four hole after she had scratched 12th after a bunker escapade.

The championship was so close that handicap 36 Mathai required a three-way count-back of 38 points to outclass local physician Ben Muthiora (17) and Jagdish Aggarwal (12) for third place.

"I was easy with my tee shots and easily got points from long holes since I am a long hitter. That is why I performed well on the toughest holes on the course — seventh, eighth, 16th and 17th," said Ngure, who embraced golf a year ago.

Apparently all the four holes were dogleg left par-five. She bogeyed stroke index 1 seventh before double-bogeying the stroke index 3 eighth. Ngure claimed level par and bogey on the respective holes in reverse form for 16th and 17th.

Meanwhile, Muthaiga’s Amos Ndehi defeated 224 participants to win the fourth round of the South African tourism golf series at the par 71 Muthaiga Golf Club.

Ndehi playing off handicap 12 posted 42 points (18, 24) to win Division B, while Golf Talent Foundation Trustee, Abdul G Vaiani, won Division A on 40 points and Wilfred Kiboro was the Division C winner on 36 points. A total of 12 qualifiers booked tickets to the national finals in January.
