Shah bags first victory at Nyali Chairman’s Prize

Mombasa businessman Saj Shah survived a countback score to bag his first win in the Nyali Chairman’s (Taib Bajaber) 2021 Prize Golf tournament at the club’s course in Mombasa, over the weekend.

The handicap 22 golfer carded a two countback score 40 stableford points to emerge the overall winner.

“Going to the practicing range very early and working on my putts and swings resulted into this tight win, which was my first this year. This is a pointer that the year will favour me. I thank the club for maintaining a good course and sponsors for making this event a success,” said Shah.

Shah tied on the same score with men winner handicap 22 Epapra Lagat and men runners-up handicap 24 Zafir Din.

Mary Kandu, playing off handicap 14, was the lady winner on 39 points, two points ahead of second-placed handicap 14, Truphena Oyaro.

The Guest winner prize was won by handicap 8 Shokat Mughal, on 34 points, while handicap 15 George Choge, on 37 points, was the winner for the Best main committee.

Handicap 19 Dominic Makau won the best Past Chairman title.

Other winners were Best Dola Golfing group: Abdikadir Ibrahim (26)-39C/B points, First High Handicapper 28+-Neil Dodhia (42)-50 points, second High handicappers 28+-Winfred Ndunge (47)-45points, Nearest to Pin Men-Allan Mola-5.3”, Nearest to the pin Lady-Terry Odoo-7.6”, Longest Drive Men-Agina C.K, Longest drive lady-Susan Stokes and Kenyan One winner-Adel Balala.

The day-long 18 hole tournament was to bid farewell to the outgoing Club Chairman Taib Bajaber, marking the end of his two-year term in office.

Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA) was the main sponsor, supported by Redavia, Contech, ADT Insurance, Lecol, Kitui Floor Millers (KFM), Lucozade, Absa Bank, Blue Sky, Green Land, Kericho Gold, and friends of the Chairman.

Bajaber, who previously served as the club's captain in 2019, thanked sponsors for their support  and club members for giving him an opportunity to serve them.
