Bidco United secured their second FKF Premier League win after silencing Posta Rangers 1-0 in yesterday’s rescheduled match at Kasarani Annex.

Erick Githimu’s 18th minute thunderbolt is all that Bidco needed to inflict a second consecutive defeat on Rangers and go level on 11 points with ninth-placed Sofapaka and Nzoia Sugar.

A delighted Bidco coach Anthony Akhulia was full of praise for his players.

“I’m very happy for the win and the way the boys played. We have been working so had in previous matches, but the results have not gone our way. Today’s victory lifts us from the relegation zone,” Akhulia told Standard Sports.

“Erick Githimu has been very instrumental for us. You can’t imagine this a player who was in Division Two last season. Though I’m pleased with his progress, I still expect more from him.”

Rangers could have taken an early lead in the fifth minute, but Jackson Dwang’s close range effort was perfectly blocked by the opposition’s defence before Bidco saw Jacob Onyango’s deflected shot easily gathered by Rangers goalkeeper Byrne Omondi.

In the 15th minute, Bidco goalkeeper Omar Adisa pulled off a fine save to stop Dwang’s well taken free kick.

Bidco responded immediately with Erick Githimu unleashing a screamer to beat goalkeeper Byrne Omondi.

Bidco almost doubled the lead in the 29th minute only for Ngotho to brilliantly block Stephen Waruru’s dangerous pass from the right flank.

Rangers coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo was then forced to make an early substitution with Kevin Ouma replacing central defender Suleiman who was stretchered out after a collision while clearing a corner kick.

Dwang squandered another chance to draw level in the 43 minute before Wilson Anekeya headed out Calvin Odongo’s pass on the byline for a fruitless corner kick.

Kevin Ouma missed a sitter as the referee waved away penalty appeal from the mailmen after a handball in the box.

Elijah Mwanzia nearly snatched an equaliser five minutes into the second half, but the goalkeeper came off his line to avert the danger before Dinken Mwema ballooned his effort as Rangers continued piling pressure on the opposition’s defence. However, Bidco back line held their nerve to claim the important win.

Meanwhile, veteran coach Abdallah Juma has left Sony Sugar and will be hoping to make a winning start as Western Stima coach when the struggling powermen clash with Mathare United in a relegation battle at Kasarani Annex (warm-up pitch) today.

The former AFC Leopards, KCB, Chemelil Sugar and Thika United trainer officially made a return to topflight football on Tuesday after almost four years in the cold when he was unveiled as Paul Ogai’s replacement.

But Juma knows he has his work cut out as he needs to turn around Stima’s fortunes after a dismal start this season. The 16th-placed Western Stima have garnered five points from nine matches.

“It feels great to return to the Premier League. I know it is challenging, but I’m determined to help Western Stima do well in the remaining matches,” said Juma.
