Why Bandari have reason to worry

Bandari have been hit by several injuries on their four key players ahead of the third edition of the SportPesa Super Cup next week in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The injured are defender Bernard Odhiambo, midfielder Mwinyi Hamisi and strikers David King’atua and Michael Luvusi.

Bandari take on Singida United in their opening match at the National Stadium on January 22.

“Their presence would have given us a perfect start and the much-needed impetus in the tournament although I have a large pool of young players who will replace them even though they are not experienced,” Bandari head coach Bernard Mwalala said.

Mwalala is, however, confident of winning the tournament despite the predicament.

Speaking after his side defeated Mount Kenya United 2-1 in a SportPesa Premier League match at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru over the weekend, the tactician said his playing unit is focused on the prize money that goes with finishing within the medal bracket.

The winner of the tournament will pocket $30,000 (Sh3 million), runner-up $10,000(Sh1 million), play-off winners $7,500(Sh750, 000), while semifinalists will pocket $5,000 (Sh 500, 000) and quarterfinalists $2,500 (Sh 250, 000).

Bandari are determined to win their opening match which will give the playing unit confidence and boost their morale.
