Eric Bailly will miss clash with Liverpool after Ivory Coast Qualify for Africa Cup of Nations

Eric Bailly, one of the stars of the new Manchester United season, will miss their clash with arch rivals Liverpool after helping Ivory Coast to qualify for the African Cup of Nations.

£30million man Bailly has impressed since becoming the first major signing of the Jose Mourinho era at Old Trafford.

But he'll miss Jurgen Klopp's side visiting Old Trafford after the Ivory Coast drew 1-1 at home to Sierra Leone and ensured they will have the opportunity to defend their title in Gabon.

The competition, which was originally due to be held in Libya but was moved when the war-stricken country announced it wouldn't be able to cope, will run from January 14th to February 5th early next year.

It means that Bailly will certainly miss the home games against Liverpool and Hull City, as well as a trip to Stoke.

Should the tournament go to plan for the defending champions then he will also be absent for the visit to Leicester City in early February - the side against whom we won the Man of the Match award in August's Community Shield.

Former Premier League forwards Gervinho and Salomon Kalou also started the game for Ivory Coast, as did Aston Villa's new £15million signing Jonathan Kodjia.

Liverpool's Sadio Mane will also miss the United fixture in January after Senegal sealed qualification back in June.
