Mathare United influential midfielder Eric Johanna has been invited to attend trials at Swedish side AIK Fotboll.

Johanna who was a mid-season transfer target for Gor Mahia will be away for two weeks beginning early next month, Mathare United chairman Bob Munro has confirmed.

“He is going away for trials and will be away for two weeks. As a club, we never stand in the way of our players who want to better their careers and have a realistic chance of doing so and so we will let him go,” said Munro.

Munro said they will not hesitate to let the player go should he prove himself during the trials.

“The good thing with allowing him to go for the trials is that he will still come back a better player should the club not sign him,” he pointed out.

Johanna has had a great season at United and is the influence behind the team’s good run of results this season.

It is a performance that has seen him earn a call up to the national team Harambee Stars and pulled a goal when Stars edged out Congo 2-1 in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Nairobi.

Elsewhere, the Mathare United chairman has said that the club has officially written to FKF to complain about poor officiating standards.

Munro said he wants the federation to take up action quickly to deal with the matter.

“We have written to FKF following what happened on Saturday during our match against AFC Leopards. This is something that needs to be dealt with quickly,” he said.
