League leaders Tusker picked maximum points against champions Gor Mahia in a highly charged match at the Nyayo National Stadium yesterday.

The match was halted for 15 minutes in the 70th minute when Humphrey Mieno scored from the spot. That proved to be the only goal of the match.

Tusker were awarded a penalty after Abouba Sibomana pulled down Anthony Ndolo in the box as they jostled for a ball from a Tusker freekick.

But Gor Mahia fans were not amused by the decision and started throwing missiles on the pitch forcing the match to be temporarily stopped.

A fan even entered the pitch at the final whistle and manhandled the assistant referee.

The win helped Tusker maintain their position at the top of the log taking their tally to 20 points.

Gor Mahia’s day had not started well as their Under-20 team earlier lost 2-0 to arch rivals AFC Leopards at the same venue.

Gor Mahia’s dangerous forward Jacques Tuyisenge only had a quarter of an hour in the match as he came on for Enock Agwanda but he could not influence the game.

The loss means Gor have not won their last two matches despite having had a perfect start when coach Ze Maria took over.

In Mombasa, second half substitute Edwin Lavatsa scored an equaliser as Bandari played to a 1-1 draw against Posta Rangers.

Rangers went ahead in the 34th minute through Joseph Nyaga before Lavatsa rescued the point.

On resumption, the dockers looked dangerous with Dan Sserunkuma tormenting the mailmen defence.

Lavatsa saved the homeboys from defeat after he blasted home the equaliser in the 65th minute, two minutes after coming on for David King’atua. Bandari had chances in the dying minutes but could not find the net.

In Awendo, Sony Sugar registered their first win of the season by beating fellow sugar millers Chemelil 1-0.

Justine Monday scored in the dying minutes of the first half from a freekick after Amos Assembeka was fouled. Elsewhere, Muhoroni Youth and Western Stima drew 0-0.
