Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea out of must-win Midtjylland clash

De Gea makes a save in training for Manchester united

Louis van Gaal says De Gea has still not recovered from the knee injury, which has forced the Spain goalkeeper to miss United's last two games

David De Gea will not be back for Manchester United's must-win clash with Midtjylland tomorrow night at Old Trafford.

Louis van Gaal says De Gea has still not recovered from the knee injury, which has forced the Spain goalkeeper to miss United's last two games.

Van Gaal added that Antonio Valencia would not start against the Danish champions, even though he trained today. Valencia has been out since October with a foot injury.

The United boss also claimed that Marcos Rojo would only be able to play a 20-minute cameo if needed as he finalises his recovery from his shoulder problem.

When asked about De Gea, Van Gaal said: "I was hoping for that, but he will not be involved.

"Valencia is not available, Januzaj no. They are close. Rojo can maybe come in for 20 minutes maybe, so it is possible. It all depends on the other injuries."

Chris Smalling is understood to be fit after he crashed into an advertising hoarding against Shrewsbury Town on Monday.

United trail 2-1 from last week's first leg and van Gaal says they must improve on that poor display.

"In every game, it's important to win the second ball, especially against a team playing long diagonal balls," he said. "The first ball is not so important, but the second one is.

"We also have to keep the ball better and move it quicker, especially when the opponent is so well organised."
