Zdravko Logarusic returned to the bench as AFC Leopards registered a morale-boosting victory ahead of the Mashemeji Derby after beating a resilient Ligi Ndogo 2-1 in a Gotv shield clash, at the City Stadium, yesterday.

It was a repeat of last year’s quarter-finals where Leopards won 2-0.

Ligi took the lead in the 16th minute through Sven Yida’s strike before Ivorian import Laminne Diallo levelled the scores with Congolese import Patrick Kagogo scoring the winner. “Despite the victory, this match was an eye-opener as we approach the derby against Gor Mahia. We won it on individual qualities. My job is to produce results and I feel great to be back and end the winless streak,” said Logarusic.

“It is an important win for us as we prepare for Gor match,” added AFC defender Edwin Wafula.

But for Ligi Ndogo coach Evans Omondi, his charges played their hearts out. “I salute the boys. We played our best, created more chances than Leopards but loss of concentration cost us,” said Omondi.

Right from the start, both teams started on a high tempo, but it was Leopards who threatened first in the second minute.

Diallo saw his long range effort go wide before his feeble header was easily picked up by Ligi Ndogo goalkeeper Tom Muthomi.
