Arsenal's search for more players in the transfer window

Arsene Wenger could be tempted back into the market for more players in this transfer window.

The Gunners boss has put his scouts on red alert but they are determined to offload players first.

Speaking in Singapore, ahead of the Barclays Asia Trophy, he told reporters:  “I don’t close the door if we can find any player who can strengthen the squad then we will. We have strengthened the squad already and I believe part of the success of the team is down to the level of cohesion.

“We have a good level of cohesion and at the moment what is very important to our squad and myself is to see how we can move forward again.

“We feel that we moved forward last season but it’s not enough to think that’s okay, we have to move forward again. It’s much more important about the team now rather than finding the right player. I believe we have the quality and it’s now how much we can be stronger together.”

Lukas Podolski has already gone to Galatasaray, Ajax want Yaya Sanogo on loan and Joel Campbell is a target for Benfica and Real Sociedad.

That would free up space and cash for a new forward and Wenger could still make a move even though he has stressed publicly he doesn’t need anyone else.

Arsenal are preparing to promote Chuba Akpom this season and make him a regular part of the first team squad.

That strengthens their options still further as they already have Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck competing for places.

But if the right striker becomes available at the right price then Wenger could still make a move as he weighs up whether his squad needs any reinforcements before the transfer window shuts.
