Football Kenya Federation summons Amrouche, Logarusic

By GILBERT WANDERA

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has summoned national team, Harambee Stars, coach Adel Amrouche and Gor Mahia coach, Zradvko Logarusic in the wake of a stand-off between the two men.

FKF chairman, Sam Nyamweya, has, at the same time, urged club coaches to support the national team and respect Amrouche.

He said they won’t hesitate to take action against any coach who tries to sabotage the national team.

“We are taking this matter very seriously and have called the two men to discuss the best way forward,” Nyamweya said.

Last week, Amrouche accused Logarusic of sabotage after the Gor tactician failed to release three players to join the national team for the June 5 World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria.

“We are asking all club coaches to support our team so that we can succeed against Nigeria. The national coach is the senior most and needs to be respected by the rest,” added Nyamweya.

The FKF boss spoke at a function to launch a fund-raising initiative for Stars ahead of the World Cup qualifier matches.

The initiative seeks to raise Sh250million through Short Message Services (SMS).

Members of the public will contribute Sh20 to a short code number 20870.

“The federation has done its best to support this team, but we want to involve the public because this team belongs to them. We want to assure them that all the money raised will be used for the intended purpose.

“We have put in place measures to ensure accountability for the funds,” Nyamweya said.

The Managing Partner of BTP Proactive, Charles Anglin said the initiative has been supported by many companies and urged members of the public to support it.

“The initiative will run for several months and the money raised will go solely to improve standards of the team. We have many companies backing us and, at the right time, we will make it public,” he said.

Three Kenyan legends Austin Oduor, Mahmoud Abbas and Joe Kadenge have also backed the initiative, pointing out it has come at the right time.
