Kitui couple in custody over love-triangle drama in police station

The investigations have led to the arrest of a police constable in Mutitu Police Station, and his wife.

An excerpt from a police report by The Standard shows that the constable was on night duty with his colleague on Saturday night.

In the wee hours of Sunday morning, the colleague stepped out due to health reasons leaving the accused to man both the cell entry and the report office.

It is reported that while his partner was away, the suspect released a female prisoner who was being held for the offence of malicious damage, and allegedly had sexual relations with her in one of the offices at the station.

While in the act, the suspect's wife walked in on them and attacked the woman, who sustained head injuries.

"It is said that the suspect had failed to go back to the house on several occasions which prompted his wife to come and check on him [at the station] so that after he reported off [sic] they go back to the house together." The report made on Sunday, morning reads.

"After she came to the report office, she did not find her husband. While there she heard two people conversing in one of the rooms and she could identify her voice. She pushed the door where she found them half naked and attacked the prisoner using a heavy stick where she sustained head injuries and a suspected fracture on her left femur."

The injured prisoner was rushed to Mutitu Sub-County Hospital for treatment while the two are in custody pending investigations.

The couple will be arraigned on Monday.
