Eunice Sum wins 800m at the IAAFContinental cup

BIRMINGHAM, UK

Eunice Sum easily won the Birmingham leg of the IAAF Diamond League 800m returning 1:59.85 at the Alexander Stadium here in United Kingdom.

The world champion was well outside her season best of 1:57.82 which she set on May 30 at Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, USA, but never appeared in danger of being upset.

Great Britain's Laura Muir 2:00.42 finished second, well behind the Kenyan girl.

Poland's Joanna Jozwik finished third in 2:00.74 in setting her one season best.

Running just behind the pacesetters, Sum bid her time before hitting the front line with 200 metres to go and opened up the gap from the chasing pack before dipping at the tape in glorious sunshine in Birmingham.

The victory comes only a week after winning the Eugene leg which she also dominated in setting her season best.
