Lukos Energy Basketball League All star event lived to its expectations as the fully packed Kisumu Sportsground was entertained by displays from the ballers who brought the much anticipated skill set for the event.
The event started with a 3x3 basketball match pitting Bikers versus the Djs. The Bikers won the match 15-6. Jefferson Opiyo then brought the crowds up from their seats with electrifying dunks to win the prestigious dunking competition trophy. On the 3 point contests, Moses Matala from Mukumu allstars took the sole responsibility of carrying kakamega County when he sunk 3 points at will to win the 3 point contest trophy. Lisa Adhiambo from Urbanville won the 3 point contest ladies category.
The all-star games then tipped off with the ladies East conference bringing out their prowess to win 32-13 against the West conference. Carol Akinyiof East Conference in action during the Ladies Allstar finals.[Washington Onyango,Standard]
The men's category showcased a pulsating match between Uplands and Victoria which lived to its expectation. Tight match that ended at 11-11 at the end of the first quarter.
The Victoria conference proved to be stronger than the enterprising Uplands team who couldn't contain the pressure as they succumbed to a 37-57 loss.
The event was graced by Dr. Captain Tim Egbo, USAMRIID who also sponsored the winning price money of 50,000. Brian Ondari and Castro Nasio won the coveted Tim Egbo MVP award for the Men and Ladies category respectively. The winners were decorated with accolades which included Medals, trophies and price money.
Victoria conference coach Dismass Oketch couldn't hide his joy as he led the team to the hard thought Victory.
He pointed out that Uplands were worthy opponents thus had to study the game keenly in order to emerge victorious. Coach Geoffrey Mwangi said his Uplands lads took the loss with lots of lessons to take home. The event has really helped the players get exposed and will in-turn improve the standards of basketball in the region. Jefferson Opiyo dunks duirng the Lukos Energy Allstar dunk contest. The event was co-sponsored by Inuka Hospital , Precious Events, CCBA Kisumu and Kisumu County hosted basketballers from Vihiga, Kisumu, Migori, Busia, West Pokot, Uasin Gishu, Kakamega and Bungoma County.
