Kenya Basketball Federation Premier league side Nakuru Club has lost one of its players to Co-operative Bank of Kenya.

Centre Nicholas Anyang’ opted to open new accounts with the bankers and while confirming the move, Nakuru’s head coach Richard Kanda said Anyang’s departure has left him a worried man because he was one of the team’s dependable players. He had been with Nakuru for four years.

“His departure has really affected us, but we had to release him because as a club, we do not block ambitions and aspirations of any player. When one wants to leave for greener pastures, we respect their wish. Therefore, we wish him well in his new assignment,” Kanda said.

Anyang’ is studying Law at Kenyatta University. “The bankers must have promised the towering player heaven," Kanda said

However, the veteran coach said he was also planning to beef up his squad by acquiring three young players ahead of the new season that starts this month.

“I have already spotted and talked to them. They are from a local university and once we have sealed the deal with them, we’ll be in a position to release more details,” he said.

The coach added that the trio is capable of covering the void left by Anyang’.

The Kenya Basketball Federation Premier League will start on March 11, although the federation has so far not released the fixtures.

Kanda said his playing unit is ready for the big assignment and will do even much better than last season.

Last year, Nakuru Club reached the national play-offs for the first time. They were, however, bundled out by the then defending champions Kenya Ports Authority.

While appealing to well-wishers to assist the financially-stricken club, Kanda said they are aiming to win the title.

“Although, it would not be an easy thing to achieve, this time round, we want to win the title,” he said.
