Uganda's Joshua Cheptegei wins 10,000m men's race as Kenya's Stanley Mburu bags silver

Kenya's Stanley Waithaka Mburu on Sunday night overcame a stumble and trip to win silver for Kenya in the men's 10000m race at the ongoing 2022 World Athletics Championship in Oregon, United States.

The 22-year old bounced back from a fall in the opening lap and another stumble after three laps to clocked 27:27.90 and finish second behind Ugandan Joshua Cheptegei.

Cheptegei produced a stunning sprint in after the bell to win the race in 27:27.43 ahead of Mburu who surprised many by out-sprinting Ethiopia's Barega.

Uganda clinched gold and bronze with Jacob Kiplimo also edging out Olympic champion Barega for third place.

Barega faded in the homestretch to finish a disappointing fifth in 27:28.39. Local athlete Grant Fisher timed 27:28.14 to finish fourth.
