Olympians traditionally earn a generous monetary reward from their home nations after winning gold, silver or bronze medals at the Olympics.

While the International Olympic Committee (IOC) does not pay athletes for their winning performances, many countries offer some form of compensation for clinching medals.

For instance, Kenya gives its Paralympic athletes the same financial rewards for winning medals as their Olympic counterparts.

Currently, Kenya has one paralympic medal (Bronze) that was won by Nancy Chelangat Koech, who was guided by his brother Geoffrey Malel   Kiplangat, during the race on August 30, 2021, at the Tokyo Paralympics Games.

Kenya reportedly pays $10,000 (Sh1,088,000) to gold medalists, $7,500 (Sh816,000) for silver medalists, and $5000 (Sh544,000) for bronze medalists.

The government also gives a uniform token of Sh200,000 to all athletes and officials, including the Paralympics team, which is currently participating in the delayed Summer Games.

Kenya Olympic Team bagged 10 medals; 4 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze.

How much other countries pay Paralympic athletes for gold, silver and bronze medals

According to the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), American athletes will receive $37,500 {Sh4.1m} for each gold medal, $22,500 (sh2.4m) for each silver medal and $15,000 (sh1.6m) for each bronze medal.

The Australian Olympic Committee on Thursday said they will give its Paralympic athletes the same as their Olympic counterparts.

A number of Australian Paralympic athletes have complained they receive no bonuses for winning medals, while the country's Olympians get A$20,000 (sh 1.6m) for gold medals and lesser payments for minor medals.
