Kenya will be the place to be when the World Athletics Under 20 Championship takes place on July 7-12 next year according to Cabinet Secretary for Sports Amb. Amina Mohamed.

The CS was speaking on the sidelines of the World Athlete of the Year awards here in Monaco where she also launched the competition’s website https://worldathleticsu20.com/nairobi2020/ and updated the athletics fraternity on Kenya’s preparedness to host the event.

CS Amina said the experience of hosting the highly successful Under 18 championships in Nairobi in 2017 makes Kenya better placed to handle the U20 Championships come next year.

“We are fully on track. In March, we will do our rehearsals and show the world that we are ready. We have an amazing organizing committee and I can assure you Nairobi will be the place to be in July.

“We can confidently tell the world that Nairobi is ready, Kenya’s hospital people are ready to host the world. It will be a huge party thereafter, so yes come and experience what Kenya can offer,” Amb. Amina said who was accompanied by Sports Principal Secretary Kirimi Kaberia, the Chairman of the LOC Lt.Gen (Rtd) Jackson Tuwei and the LOC CEO Michael Rabar.

The CS, one of Kenya’s top diplomats was on a charm offensive extolling the country’s preparedness as she also assured the world on security arrangements.

“It may be too early, but judging by what we delivered in 2017, those countries that pulled out citing security concerns later regretted saying they wished they hadn’t,” she said.

PS Kaberia said, the trip to Monaco was meant to appraise the World Athletics on the progress so far, which he said was going according to plan.

“We came with people from the policy section as well as the technical and liaison to make sure we are in tandem with requirements of the World Athletics,” Kaberia said.

The LOC chairman Lt. Gen (Rtd) Tuwei, who is also the President of Athletics Kenya said they were confident of delivering a world-class event.

“Everything is going according to plan. All we need to do is continue rolling out the remaining action plans. Otherwise, we have really made good progress,” Lt. Gen (Rtd) Tuwei said.
