Kabras Sugar robe KCB to retain Enterprise Cup

Kabras Sugar retained the Enterprise Cup title after coming from behind to defeat arch rivals KCB 30-27 in Saturday's final at RFUEA Grounds.

Despite trailing 18-7 at the breather, the Kenya Cup champions showed character to score two tries and three penalties in the final half to win their third Enterprise Cup title after lifting the trophy last year and in 2019.

Last year in April, Kabras saw off KCB 9-6 in a try-less match to emerge champions and the Kakamega-based side were upbeat of repeating the same feat despite arriving in Nairobi with a depleted squad.

Both teams were playing without their key players, with the bankers missing the services of Brian Wahinya, Samuel Asati, Elvis Olukusi and Thomas Okidia among others who are out on international duty.

Kabras on the other hand missed the services of Ntabeni Dukisa, Hillary Odhiambo, Brian Juma and George Nyambua among other players.

To make matters even more hard tactically, head coaches Carlos Kyatwa and Curtis Olago also travelled with Kenya Simbas as assistant coaches for the Currie Cup international assignments in South Africa.

Retired Kenya Simba's full back Darwin Mukidza drilled in the bankers first points off a penalty to lead 3-0 before Kenya Sevens winger Jacob Ojee stretched the scores to 8-0 with an unconverted try.

Dennis Mwanja's charges then added another five-pointer through Maina before Mukidza added the extras to push the scores to 15-0. The bankers then added another penalty to see the scores rise to 18-0.

Shujaa star Brian Tanga would be introduced before the break with his impact felt immediately after flowing a pass to Dan Sikuta to trail 18-7 at the break.

In the final half, Kabras scored two penalties before KCB responded with two of their own as the scores remained in the bankers favour 24-13.

Kabras then converted a try to cut the score to 24-20 before the bankers added a penalty to move seven points ahead 27-20. A penalty and late try by Patrick Sabatia saw the millers pull a late 30-27 win
