All set for NOCK elections

Transparency in the administration of funds will be the hallmark of Kenya Volleyball Federation assistant treasurer Moses Mbuthia if elected the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) treasurer in its elections this morning.

Mbuthia who is also the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association Nairobi branch chairman said transparency is all what NOCK needs to improve the confidence of corporate sponsors to inject more funds into the national Olympic body.

“This is all what we need in order to get good funding from corporate sponsors that will allow us to offer effective leadership to all national federations,” Mbuthia told Standard Sports.

Asked why he thinks he’s better than his opponent, Mbuthia who will fight it out with Eliud Kariuki of Kenya Amateur Weightlifting Association said “I’m not seeking election to fight or concentrate on personalities’.

Kenya Cycling Association Secretary-General Charles Mose said it was an appropriate time for them to get a representation in NOCK.

“We also need to be felt at NOCK having previously won Kenya medals in All Africa Games and Commonwealth Games. Olympics will not be an exception with good leadership,” Mose said.                                                                      

Mose who is Africa’s representative in the International Cycling Union (ICU) Board and Vice President of Africa Para-Cycling Federation is out to be elected as one of NOCK executive members.

He will fight it out with Kenya Basketball Federation's Paul Agali, Boxing Federation of Kenya treasurer Musa Benjamin Oyombi, Suleiman Sumba of Kenya Tae Kwondo Federation, Barnabas Korir of Athletics Kenya, Winnie Kamau (Sports Dispute Tribunal) and June Waweru (Kenya Golf Union and Kenya Golf Federation).

Benjamin who is also BFK National Head Coach said the Paul Tergat led committee had done a good job in the past four years and were interested to get associated with the progressive team led by former the world cross-country champion.

“As an Olympic sport, it was only prudent to be with the progressive team as we seek to be represented at the national Olympic body,” Benjamin said.

Tergat has already sailed in unopposed as the NOCK President for another four-year term in an election that has attracted officials from different national federations save for Football Kenya Federation, Kenya Golf Union, Tennis Kenya and Kenya Swimming Federation.

Also elected unopposed were Humphrey Kayange of Kenya Rugby Union and world 5,000m champion Hellen Obiri of Athletics Kenya who are athletes’ representatives.

In the first Deputy President seat, it has attracted John Kilonzo of Kenya Rugby Union who fights it out with Kenya Hockey Union President Nashon Randiek and Shadrack Maluki of Kenya Judo Federation.

The second Deputy President contest has attracted former world marathon record holder Tegla Loroupe against Kenya Volleyball Federation President Waithaka Kioni.

Incumbent Secretary General Francis Mutuku of Tennis Kenya fights it out against Francis Kinyili and Kenya Table Tennis Association President Andrew Mudibo.

The Deputy Secretary-General post has attracted Kenya Softball Association’s Francis Karugu against Kenya Sports Shooting Federation’s Mohamed Addulgani and James Mukira of Tae Kwondo Association.

Agnes Oluoch of Kenya Table Tennis Association is interested in being the deputy treasurer against John Onyango of Kenya Sports Shooting Federation.

Paurvi Rawal of Tennis Kenya and Mududa Waweru of Kenya Volleyball Federation will both contest for the women representative seat.
