Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST RFC) will be aiming to continue with their perfect start to the 2019-2020 KRU Championship when they host leaders Strathmore Leos at MMUST Grounds in Kakamega on Saturday.

The Kakamega-based students have already bagged six victories against Egerton Wasps, United States International University (USIU RFC), Kisii, Mean Machine, University of Eldoret and Eldoret RFC which place them second behind leaders Strathmore Leos with 25 points.

Speaking with the Standard Sports, MMUST captain Samuel Mbeche said they are prepared to fight for the top spot with a massive win.

He said they have been training well and their objective is to register a bonus win and reduce the four-point gap between them and Leos.

“Six victories in a row is a good start for us and I have trust in the team that they will deliver another important victory today. We are working on catching up with Strathmore who are four points ahead and therefore we are going for a bonus win,” he said.

The former Kenya Cup outfit is also unbeaten having won all their six matches against Pirates, USIU, Mombasa, Catholic Monks, Mean Machine and Northern Suburbs but Mbeche believes if they are clinical and discipline, they will emerge victorious.

“Last season we struggled a lot during big matches because we were not disciplined. We were giving away many fouls and penalties but this year we have improved. All we need is to take our chances, defend well and pin them in their half to prevent them from playing,” Mbeche added.

MMUST will play Strathmore at 3 pm following the revised time by the Kenya Rugby Union.
