Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST RFC) maintained their second position after edging out newbies Eldoret RFC 38-0 in a KRU Championship match at MMUST, over the weekend.

Elvis Amunya landed the opening try with John Bahati adding the extras to give the students a 7-0 half time lead before Kevin Abuga made it 12-0 after the restart.

Amunya then got his brace before Felix Okumu, Timothy Mmasi, Samwel Mbeche and Tyson Juma joined the fray for their first bonus point win of the season.

“We played well and with determination and we are delighted to have bagged a bonus win today considering Leos lead,” MMUST captain Mbeche told the Standard Sports.

In Nairobi, Strathmore Leos continued with their perfect start in the championship after thrashing Catholic Monks 40-10 in the battle of the varsities at the University of Nairobi.

Speaking after the win, Leos captain Gabriel Adero said they are taking each game at a time and are focused on returning to Kenya Cup action.

“The team is very hungry for victories and we cannot wait to get back to where we belong; the Kenya Cup. However, we are going to take it easy because the championship this season is quite competitive,” he said.

They were joined on the winning list by South Coast Pirates and Mean Machine, who picked the first win of the season after a 36-3 win over Mombasa and Northern Suburbs respectively.

The University of Eldoret Trojans suffered the first loss of the season after losing 21-15 to Egerton Wasps.

United States International University-Africa (USIU) RFC enjoyed an easy 24-0 win after Kisii RFC failed to show up in Nairobi.

Leos lead with 14 points from three wins, one more than second placed MMUST. Trojans and South Coast Pirates complete the top four with nine points each.
