Polo: Kenya beats USA at Lusaka International Championship

Kenya beat USA 17-5 at the Lusaka International Championships at Lubombo Polo Club in Zambia yesterday.

The Kenyan team looked strong in the four chukka match as each of the four players scored at least three goals in the opening match. They will battle Zambia B this morning at the same venue.

The team exhibited teamwork that saw the national junior team comprising Jazini Nzomo, Ben Stonewigg, Tom Stonewigg and William Millar get off to a fine start. Jadini scored five goals, Ben managed six, while Tom and Millar scored three each.

The US team of Oliver Wieser, handicap -1, Augustus Grootnik, Cipriano Echezarreta and Ava Rose Hinkson scored through Echezarreta who struck a hat trick, and Grootnik who managed a brace in the second and fourth chukkas. Kenya face Zambia A tomorrow at the same venue.

The Zambia A team comprises Tristan Clayton, handicap -1; Ewen Pinkney, handicap -1; Emily Paterson, handicap -1; Bianca Coventry and handicap -1 Oliver John Snart.

The Zambia B team has handicap -1 Mitch Coventry, handicap -1 Jessica Patterson, handicap -1 Savannah Coventry and handicap -2 Max Coventry.

Meanwhile, the Bwana Begg Murray and Connaught Cup Polo Championships at Northern Polo Club in Timau was cancelled yesterday due to heavy rains.

“We had to cancel it due to the heavy rains in the Mount Kenya region and hope to resume this morning in case there will be no heavy rains," said tournament director George Mc Corkell.

Attribute takes on Gaucho in Murray Cup today ahead of Redigo Deter versus Skyway Pro. There will be a match between CBA against Prosaro in Timau Stores Cup.
