Manchester United have reportedly contacted Chelsea over a possible move to sign misfit Tiemoue Bakayoko.

The 24-year-old midfielder is back at Stamford Bridge after spending last season on loan at AC Milan but is not believed to be part of new manager Frank Lampard's long-term plans.

According to RMC Sport, Bakayoko has now emerged as a shock transfer target for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the Red Devils ponder midfield options in case Paul Pogba departs.

They also face competition from Arsenal, with Unai Emery, said to be an admirer of the midfielder and considering handing him another chance in the Premier League.

Bakayoko joined Chelsea for £40m in 2017 from Monaco but flattered to deceive in his debut Premier League campaign.

It led to him being shipped out on loan last season, experienced a mixed time in Serie A with AC Milan and coming in for plenty of criticism from fans.

However, it seems Arsenal and United will consider handing him a lifeline to resurrect his career in the English top flight and prove his worth.

Paris Saint-Germain are also in talks with Bakayoko's entourage over a potential transfer deal, with Leonardo responsible for taking him to AC Milan before his move to the French capital as sporting director.

Bakayoko was back in Chelsea training last week as the Blues returned to start their pre-season under Lampard.

They are currently enjoying a pre-season tour in Ireland, and talks between the player and manager are set to take place when they return next week.

But it looks highly unlikely he will have a part to play in west London, sparking interest from elsewhere.

Arsenal could lose midfielder Lucas Torreira this summer with reported interest from AC Milan.

Meanwhile, Manchester United know star man Paul Pogba is keen to depart for a new challenge, whilst midfield transfer target Youri Tielemans has joined Leicester on a permanent basis.
