“The event was a success and I am very thankful. I didn’t expect an incredible turn out like this but it happened.” Said Shikanga.

He was happy with the number of lady contestants that turned up for the contest.

“For today we did not even expect the ladies to come because most of the youth ladies are so reserved. And it was so amazing when we saw them coming in and from what I have seen, they are ready to come out and show that they can do what men can do,” he added.

A celebrated Kenyan IFBB Bikini Fitness Competitor Farah Esmail, who was also at the event had her say on the proceedings of the afternoon.

“This is great because is an event where the youths are coming up in the sport, so it is great.

“From my experience travelling around the world, under 21 is the biggest category because that is where you start, these are the ones coming through the ranks to become the next Mr Kenya and the bikini queens." Said Esmail.

She also condemned the use of steroids in the sport and talked about how the federation is working around the clock to arrest the situation in the country.

“We are talking about the use of steroids in the sport, which is a huge contagious issue as you know. There are many athletes using steroids, here in Kenya we have banned that. Some people elect its use but it has its consequences as you heard the chairman say. There are some cases of its use in Kenya and we have banned some athletes.

“Usually after the Mr and Ms Kenya, we test the athletes if they are on steroids or not.” She added.

The federation now looks forward to the upcoming Mr and Ms Kenya event coming up soon.
