Manchester United were the highest-attended club in the Premier League during the 2018-19 season despite finishing sixth, according to recent figures.

The Red Devils had a turbulent campaign which saw the club miss out on the top four after a poor finish to the season.

Despite seeing improvements following the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in December, initially as caretaker manager, United's season fizzled out as they took just two points from their final five league games.

Although the club struggled on the pitch, Solskjaer's side were well-supported by the club's fans at Old Trafford throughout the campaign.

According to figures from www.worldfootball.net , United had an average attendance of 74,498 at home matches - higher than any other team in the top flight.

West Ham recorded the third-highest average attendances at the London Stadium (58,336), while city rivals Chelsea were only the league's eighth highest-attended club.

According to the figures, Maurizio Sarri's side welcomed an average of 40,437 supporters to each of their 19 league matches at Stamford Bridge this season, with the stadium's capacity just over 41,000 - the lowest of the top six clubs.

Newcastle also recorded higher attendances than the west London club, while Bournemouth witnessed the lowest crowds with an average crowd of 10,532 watching the Cherries' home matches.

That doesn't come as much of a surprise, considering the Vitality Stadium's status as the Premier League's smallest ground.
