Kabras Sugar Rugby captain Max Adaka on Friday said that he is confident they can dethrone defending champions Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) in Kenya Cup rugby league final on Saturday.

Hosted in Kakamega for the first time, the 2019 clash will be the third consecutive Kenya Cup final in a row for the country’s two top rugby clubs.

Adaka said that they are ready for the game and t are looking forward to winning their second Kenya Cup success.

“I think we can end KCB dominance in the Kenya Cup. Winning this at home and in front of our fans will be amazing. We are not worried and good to go. Everyone is fit, no niggles. We are going to play our best,” he said.

The 2016 champions have failed to beat KCB in the last ten meetings, managing only a 15-15 draw when they hosted the five-time champions in December 2016.

Kabras Sugar have reached all Kenya Cup finals in the past five season, but only won it once in 2015/2016 when they beat Impala 22-5 in the final and losing all their three finals to KCB.

The two sides first met in the finals during the 2014/2015 season where KCB triumphed 22-3.

Team coach Henley Du Plessis, in his first term, has now called upon all his star players to give their best believing they can end their two-year wait by beating KCB.

“We are looking forward to a tough match against Kenya’s best club in the past two years. They ended our unbeaten run during the regular season and we need to fight hard on attack and defence. We’ll not change anything but I think we have everything to win the title for the home fans,” Du Plessis toldStandard Sports.

The Kenya Rugby Union Championship final between Western Bulls and Kisumu will curtain raise the Kenya Cup final from 2 pm.

Bulls and Kisumu have already qualified for the 2019-20 Kenya Cup.

Kabras have the opportunity of winning a double if they defeat KCB as they will also face Impala in the 2019 Enterprise Cup final.
