Rift Valley teachers’ games begin today

A total of 542 sportsmen and women congregate this morning at Tambach TTC for Rift Valley Teachers Training Colleges Athletics Championships to fight for 100 slots at at the National Championships.

The three-day event ending Wednesday will culminate in the selection of a provincial squad for the Nationals to be held at Eregi TTC in Kakamega County from May 12-16.

Six colleges namely Tambach, Mosoriot, Moi TTC-Baringo, Madonna Chester and Kericho are taking part.

“We hope to select a formidable sqaud to represent the region at the nationals next week,” said Kenya Teachers Training Colleges Rift Valley branch secretary general Duncan Okwaro.

Okwaro said their selection will be based on merit and athletes must competitively fight for the few slots. The games’ theme is: “To enhance talents and moral values through sports’.

The games begin this with the training of 100 officials, who will officiate at the three-day event ahead of the official opening ceremony by the Rift Valley Regional Director of Education John Ololtua and hosting principals.

Defending champions Tambach face stiff competition from Mosoriot, Kericho and Moi TTC- Baringo, who gave them a  run for their money last season before withering the storm to win the title.
