Little-known Peter Kipkemei and Nancy Jepkemoi yesterday won Athletics Kenya Uasin Gishu branch Cross Country championships at Huruma Grounds.
Kipkemei secured his maiden victory in the 10km race in 27:13.7, beating Evans Kipkemoi (27:22.9) and Abraham Biwott (27:46.4).
Winners of the Uasin Gishu cross country booked their tickets for Central Rift AK championships set for February 9 in Baringo County.
Kipkemei said he is training his sights on picking a ticket for the 43rd IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Aarhus, Denmark on March 30.
“My main focus now is to join the national team to the World Cross country championships. It will be my first time to compete in international championship,” Kipkemei said.
Jepkemoi edged out Pamela Talam and Naomi Chepkoech to win senior women’s race in 27:12.1 as Talam and Chepkoech clocked 27:40.8 and 28:23.1 to settle for second and third places respectively.
