Ngodhe clinched the football title while Kamasengre West and Waware North snatched the volleyball titles as the 15th edition of the Rusinga Island Cultural and Sports Festival came to an end on Sunday.

Kamasengre West won third place play-off in football after beating Kaswanga 2-1. Dennis Nyakiti scored a brace as Paul Okongo added a third to lead Ngodhe past Waware Central in a football upset at the Kamasengre School ground. Shem Dawa scored twice for Waware Central.

In girls’ volleyball final, Waware North Lions beat Kamasengre West 3-1 while in boys’ final, Kamasengre West beat Kaswanga 3-1 in the final.

The event saw Julius Okanga of Kaswanga win the Golden Boot with five goals while Wilfred Akula and Michael Okeyo Akula of Waware Central was voted the best players.

The event attracted eight teams from Rusinga and Ngodhe islands, featuring in eight sports disciplines.

The final day was attended by thousands of spectators, who included Suba North MP Milly Odhiambo and area MCA Okuku Miregi among others.

The Rusinga Festival is an annual celebration of the Suba culture through music, sports, food, art, exhibitions and dances.
