Five days after hitting camp for the Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON), Harambee Starlets may be forced to break camp due to lack of money.

The government is yet to release any of the Sh43million required to facilitate the team’s training and participation.

According to sources in Football Kenya Federation (FKF) the federation is getting frustrated and is contemplating calling off the camp.

“The team cannot continue preparations under such conditions. We have our budget a long time ago but the government has told us categorically there is no money. In that case we may have no choice but to pull the team out of the tournament,” said our source.

Game Yetu understands that a decision on the team will be made by Wednesday.

The lack of funds comes at a time the sports funds is holding more than Sh12billion collected from betting companies.

The fund has not started operating owing to a standoff between Treasury, Parliament and the Sports Ministry.

It could also affect Harambee Star’s preparations for their final Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone later this month and an under-23 qualifier match against Mauritius.

National teams have been struggling to honor their assignments owing to a huge cash crunch at the Ministry of Sports.

The National Rugby Team did not receive funding ahead of their World Cup qualifier in France next week.
